Scott Malm, PhD
Project Toxicologist
Dr. Scott Malm is a toxicologist with experience in the fields of environmental toxicology and biochemistry. He is a Toxicologist at the Center for Toxicology and Environmental Health, L.L.C. (CTEH®). Dr. Malm’s background includes a B.S. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from The University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, with coursework focusing on microbiology, biochemistry, and neurophysiology. Upon graduation from University of Illinois, an M.S. in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, and Biochemistry from Southern Illinois University at their medical school campus in Springfield, IL. The research project for his thesis focused on transcriptional regulation of Placenta Growth Factor protein in trophoblast cells of the placenta and its potential impact on preeclampsia. He then moved to Arizona and worked as a Research Technician in academic labs in the departments of Cellular and Molecular Medicine and the Arizona Cancer Center. Following work in the Arizona Cancer Center, he went on to pursue a Ph.D. in the field of Pharmacology and Toxicology from The University of Arizona. His graduate research investigated the regulation of glutathione content of bronchial epithelial cells during epithelial-mesenchymal transition, and the subsequent impact of glutathione loss on toxicant sensitivity.
As a toxicologist at CTEH®, Dr. Malm specializes in toxicology, risk assessment, toxicity evaluations, and emergency response toxicology. Dr. Malm participates in a variety of projects, including evaluating the relationship between chemical exposure and disease, formulation of emergency response guides, and involvement in environmental contamination and toxic tort litigation.
